Contact from police, ASIC or another regulator is serious, but it is survivable, and what you do in the first days shapes everything that follows.
Right now
- Commit to nothing on the spot. Be courteous, take names and details, and say you will respond through your lawyers.
- Do not destroy or alter anything. Deleting documents can be a serious offence in itself, even where the underlying matter is entirely defensible.
- Be careful who you talk to. Conversations with colleagues are not protected, and can be misread as coordination.
- Take advice before any interview. Some interviews are voluntary and some are compulsory, and your rights differ sharply between them. Knowing which you are facing, before you answer anything, matters more than almost any answer you could give.
